In early 2025, Newfoundland and Labrador introduced a new Expression of Interest (EOI) model to streamline its immigration process. This system replaces the previous first-come, first-served approach, allowing the province to prioritize candidates whose skills align with local labor shortages, particularly in sectors like healthcare and education.
Key Features:
EOI Submission:Prospective immigrants submit a preliminary form detailing their occupation, education, language skills, and intent to settle in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Invitation to Apply:Selected individuals receive invitations to apply for the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) or the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)
Processing Times:Applicants should anticipate processing times of up to three months or more.
Temporary Suspensions:The province has temporarily paused Job Vacancy Assessments and AIP Designations for employers since January 2025
Increased Nominee Spaces:Newfoundland and Labrador secured an additional 1,000 provincial nominee spaces for 2025, totaling 2,525,though demand continues to exceed availability.
