B.C. Nears Skilled Worker Cap in First Provincial Nominee Draw of 2025

B.C. Nears Skilled Worker Cap in First Provincial Nominee Draw of 2025

British Columbia conducted its first Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw of 2025 on May 8, issuing 94 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) under the Skills Immigration stream. This draw marks a significant moment as the province nears its annual cap on skilled worker nominations,a consequence of a 50% reduction in its federal allocation for 2025 from 8,000 to 4,000 nominations.

Key Highlights from the May 8 Draw:

Total ITAs Issued: 94

Targeted Candidates:47 individuals working full-time in British Columbia, earning at least $105 per hour, with job offers in National Occupation Classification (NOC) TEER 0 or 1 occupations.

47 individuals who achieved a minimum score of 150 points in the Skills Immigration Registration System. This draw is the first since December 2024, following a pause due to federal immigration target cuts. The province is now focusing on candidates expected to create a high economic impact.

Implications for Future Applicants:With the reduced nomination allocation and a high volume of existing applications, British Columbia is prioritizing candidates who can significantly contribute to the province's economy. The BC PNP anticipates nominating approximately 100 individuals from the current registration pool, which contains over 10,000 candidates.Prospective applicants are advised to ensure their profiles align with the province's strategic priorities and to stay informed about any updates to the program.
