Home Care Worker Child Care Pilot Reaches Application Cap on Opening Day

The Home Care Worker Immigration Pilot: Child Care (HCWIP:CC) has officially reached its application cap on March 31, 2025, the very same day it opened. This means that the program is now closed for this intake year, and no further applications will be accepted until the next cycle begins in March 2026.

The high demand for this immigration pathway reflects the significant interest from foreign caregivers looking to secure permanent residency in Canada. Applicants who were unable to submit their applications this year are encouraged to prepare in advance for the next intake by ensuring they meet all eligibility criteria, including:

Achieving the required language proficiency level (CLB 5 or higher)

Holding an educational qualification equivalent to a Canadian high school diploma.

Securing a valid job offer from a Canadian employer.

For those who missed the opportunity, alternative immigration programs, such as Express Entry, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), or other caregiver streams, may be worth exploring.

Note: In most cases, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) requires applicants to submit their applications through the online permanent residence portal.Alternative format applications are available only for individuals who are unable to apply online and require special accommodations.

This year, the application cap was set at 2,750,with 150 spots reserved for out-of-status workers.

The federal government is expected to reopen the pilot for applications next year.

So far, only the Applicants Working in Canada stream has opened. As of now, there is no announced date for the opening of the Applicants Not Working in Canada stream.

Like most federal pilot immigration programs, the HCWP:CC is designed to run for five years.
