The Canadian government has announced a cap on applications for the Agri-Food Pilot program in 2025. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will accept a maximum of 1,010 new applications for permanent residence under this pilot until May 14, 2025, or until the cap is reached, whichever comes first.
The Agri-Food Pilot, launched in 2020, provides a pathway to permanent residence for experienced, non-seasonal workers in specific industries and occupations within Canada's agriculture and agri-food sector. Since its inception, over 4,500 agri-food workers and their family members have settled in Canada through this program.
Given the high demand and limited spaces in the 2025–2027 Immigration Levels Plan, IRCC has implemented this cap to manage application volumes effectively. Applications submitted before May 14, 2025, and within the cap will continue to be processed in alignment with targets set in the Immigration Levels Plan.
Eligible industries under the Agri-Food Pilot include:
Meat Product Manufacturing
Greenhouse, Nursery, and Floriculture Production, including mushroom farming
Animal Production (excluding aquaculture)
For agri-food workers seeking alternative pathways to permanent residence, other immigration programs are available, such as:
Federal High-Skilled Programs managed through Express Entry
Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)
Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)
Regional programs like the Rural and Francophone Community Immigration Pilots
