Update on Canada’s Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) 2025: Invitations to Be Issued

Update on Canada’s Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) 2025: Invitations to Be Issued

Canada's Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) for 2025 is set to accept up to 10,000 sponsorship applications. However, no new interest-to-sponsor forms will be accepted this year. Instead, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will randomly select potential sponsors from those who submitted interest-to-sponsor forms in 2020.

As of February 5, 2025, the processing times for PGP applications are approximately 24 months for applicants outside Quebec and 48 months for those destined for Quebec. The longer processing time for Quebec applicants is due to the province's more limited family class admission targets.

For families seeking alternatives, the Super Visa program allows parents and grandparents to visit Canada for up to five years per entry, with multiple entries permitted over a 10-year period. Recent changes have made the Super Visa more accessible by easing health insurance requirements.

IRCC plans to release more details about the 2025 PGP intake, including the timeline for sending invitations to apply, in the coming months.
