Express Entry in 2024: Paving the Way for 2025

The year 2024 brought transformative changes to Canada’s Express Entry system, reshaping the journey to permanent residency (PR) for many aspiring immigrants. A total of 98,803 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) were issued over 52 draws, with variations in both the number of draws and the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off scores across different programs and categories.

At the start of 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted a mix of general draws and category-based selections, offering a diverse range of opportunities to candidates. By May, however, the focus shifted significantly toward targeted categories such as Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and candidates demonstrating proficiency in the French language. This strategic pivot deeply influenced the patterns of ITA issuances and the corresponding CRS thresholds, highlighting Canada’s evolving immigration priorities.

These changes not only reflect Canada’s commitment to addressing specific labor market needs but also hint at what immigrants can expect from the Express Entry system in 2025.
