IEC Work Permit Holders to Face Early Cut-Off for Bonus CRS Points for Job Offers

IEC Work Permit Holders to Face Early Cut-Off for Bonus CRS Points for Job Offers

Foreign nationals holding International Experience Canada (IEC) employer-specific work permits will face an earlier deadline for receiving bonus CRS points for a valid job offer under the Express Entry system. As of December 18, 2024, individuals with IEC work permits issued after this date will no longer be eligible for these bonus points, which previously ranged from 50 to 200 CRS points depending on the job offer's National Occupation Classification (NOC) level.

This change, which precedes the broader elimination of CRS points for job offers scheduled for spring 2025, particularly affects the Young Professionals category of the IEC program. The adjustment is aimed at addressing concerns about LMIA fraud and reducing reliance on employer-driven selections.

Impact on IEC Work Permit Holders:

Before December 18, 2024: Candidates with valid job offers can still earn additional CRS points.

After December 18, 2024: Candidates with IEC work permits issued after this date will no longer benefit from these bonus points, making their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency potentially lower.

The full removal of job offer-related CRS points will come into effect in spring 2025, impacting all Express Entry candidates, including those holding work permits from other categories. The change aims to prioritize core human capital factors, like language skills and education, leveling the playing field for candidates without job offers.
