Australia’s MATES Visa Ballot Opens 1 November 2025 for Indian Graduates
The Australian Government has announced the opening of the Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-Professionals Scheme (MATES), a new visa pathway designed exclusively for Indian graduates and early-career professionals. The 2025–26 pre-application ballot will open on 1 November 2025 and close on 14 December 2025, offering a total of 3,000 places.
Under this scheme, eligible Indian citizens will have the opportunity to live and work in Australia for up to two years without the need for employer sponsorship. The initiative aims to strengthen professional, educational, and cultural ties between India and Australia, supporting collaboration in sectors that are critical to both countries’ future economic growth.
The program is open to Indian citizens aged 18 to 30 who hold a bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in an eligible discipline and meet the English language proficiency requirements.
The MATES visa focuses on professionals in high-demand and emerging industries, including:
Renewable Energy
Mining
Engineering
Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Financial Technology (FinTech)
Agricultural Technology (AgriTech)
The initiative is part of the broader Australia–India Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (AI-CECA) and reflects the growing partnership between the two nations. It seeks to promote talent exchange, skill development, and global career exposure for young professionals.
Migration consultants have advised prospective applicants to begin preparing early by ensuring their qualifications and English test results meet the eligibility standards before the ballot period begins.
With no job offer or sponsorship required, the MATES visa provides an accessible pathway for young Indians to gain international work experience and enhance their global career prospects while experiencing Australia’s renowned lifestyle and professional environment.
Applications for the 2025–26 MATES ballot open on 1 November 2025 and close on 14 December 2025.
