Australian Skilled Visa Income Thresholds to Increase from 1 July 2025
If you're planning to apply for a skilled visa to Australia, it's essential to stay updated on recent changes. Starting 1 July 2025, the Australian Government will increase income thresholds for key skilled visa subclasses. These changes were announced by the Department of Home Affairs on 24 March 2025, following recommendations from the Migration Review and are part of the new Australian Migration Strategy.
This blog will help you understand what’s changing, who it affects, and what steps you should take to ensure your visa application remains compliant.
What Are Skilled Visa Income Thresholds?
Income thresholds are the minimum salary requirements that must be met for employer-sponsored skilled visas in Australia. These thresholds help ensure that overseas workers are paid fairly and protect the local job market.
Each year, the government may adjust these thresholds to align with wage growth, specifically the Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE).

Why These Changes Matter?
Raising income thresholds is part of Australia’s plan to build a more sustainable, fair, and skilled migration system. It ensures that employer-sponsored migrants are offered competitive wages and helps to protect local Australian workers from wage undercutting.
What You Should Do Now?
Employers: Review your salary offers and ensure they meet the new thresholds.
Applicants: Lodge your application before 1 July 2025 if your current salary offer meets the existing threshold.
