New Pathway to Canadian Permanent Residence for Foreign-Trained Educators Through Express Entry
Foreign-trained schoolteachers, early childhood educators, and other professionals in the education sector now have an expanded opportunity to immigrate to Canada through Express Entry. A newly introduced category-based selection process specifically targets individuals with experience in education-related occupations, providing a streamlined pathway to obtaining Canadian permanent residence (PR).
On February 27, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) officially announced the addition of education occupations as a priority category under the Express Entry system. This update reflects Canada’s ongoing efforts to address labor shortages in the education sector and attract qualified professionals to fill critical roles across the country. Individuals with relevant work experience in this field may now receive Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence under this category, even with a lower Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score compared to general draws.
Since the introduction of category-based selection in 2023, these targeted draws have consistently featured some of the lowest CRS cut-offs within the Express Entry system, making it an attractive option for eligible candidates.
